Exhibit Electronic Technician (Full Time)

The Pacific Science Center is looking for an Exhibit Electronic Technician to contribute to the continued successful operation of PSC exhibits by repairing, maintaining and upgrading exhibits. Whether you are repairing dinosaurs, fixing robots or helping install our latest travelling exhibit, every day is different at Pacific Science Center.

Our Exhibit Electronic Technician must be creative, resourceful, thorough, positive, and above all else – dependable. The ideal candidate will have an Associate of Arts Degree or industry certification in a technical field, a high degree of proficiency in electronics and a thorough knowledge of computer hardware, software and operating systems. This person must also be proficient in at least two of the following areas: carpentry, metal work, theater style lighting and rigging. Job Status: Full Time, Regular
Compensation: D.O.E. – please send salary requirements

Job Duties:
OPERATIONAL SUPPORT: As directed by the Exhibit Technician Lead, this position ensures that PSC offers safe, entertaining, and effective exhibits by
i) Repairing broken or malfunctioning exhibits in a timely manner.
ii) Performing exhibit maintenance tasks, lighting, installing and moving exhibits
iii) Participating in daily turn-on of exhibits, participating in daily maintenance checks of exhibits and responding to radio calls for exhibit issues.
iv) Regularly reviewing, upgrading and documenting exhibits and exhibit systems.
OPERATIONAL PLANNING: Contributes to the development of exhibitions by
i) Assisting other departments with the development and troubleshooting of exhibits, props and educational aids.
ii) Assisting with the development of procedures to facilitate the safe maintenance and operation of exhibits.
iii) Locating vendors and sourcing materials.
• Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, 40hrs/year of alternative service.

Other Job Considerations:
• Maintaining and repairing dated exhibits with and without documentation, often in public areas.
• Tasks can be unique and non-repetitive in nature and require judgment, creativity, initiative and common sense to resolve.
• Work environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
• Working Saturdays, Sundays, early mornings and some late evenings

Education and Experience:
Required
• AA or industry certification in a technical field
• Washington State Driver’s License
• Forklift certification (can be earned at Pacific Science Center)
• Two years of experience in a technical field
• Proficiency in electronics; knowledge of computer hardware, software and operating systems
• Proficiency in at least two of the following areas: carpentry, metal work, theater style lighting, rigging
Desired
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Four years of experience in a technical field
• Experience in a museum setting or technical theater background
• Familiarity with mobile computing platforms
• Advanced skills in at least one of the following areas: carpentry, metal work, theater style lighting, rigging
